O’Loughlin and Clarke to lead Indigenous All Stars

Sydney Swans legend Michael O’Loughlin and North Melbourne assistant coach Xavier Clarke will take on key roles for the Indigenous All Stars ahead of their February clash against Fremantle.

O’Loughlin, a 303-game player for the Sydney Swans, is one of the most celebrated Indigenous players in AFL history. A dual All-Australian and 2005 premiership winner, O’Loughlin will chair the selection panel tasked with assembling the team. His leadership and experience will guide the All Stars in showcasing their talent and cultural heritage.

Xavier Clarke, who played 106 AFL games for St Kilda and the Brisbane Lions, will take the reins as head coach. Now an assistant coach at North Melbourne, Clarke brings tactical expertise and a passion for Indigenous representation to the team. His leadership on the sidelines will be pivotal as the All Stars prepare for this highly anticipated match.

“The Indigenous All Stars match is about more than just football—it’s a celebration of talent, unity, and cultural heritage,” O’Loughlin said.

The game, scheduled for February, has become a key event in the AFL calendar, providing a platform for reconciliation and cultural pride.

With O’Loughlin’s influence off the field and Clarke’s guidance on it, the Indigenous All Stars are set to deliver an electrifying performance against Fremantle, celebrating the best of Indigenous football talent.
